Superannuation Law for Self Managed Superannuation Funds

This six hour full day seminar has successfully met the professional requirements for education delivery set by the SMSF Professionals’ Association of Australia (SPAA) Education Review Program and has been awarded six (6) SPAA Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points.  SPAA Members are therefore able to obtain 6 points towards their CPD requirements.

The seminar is designed for accountants and auditors who have entered the Self Managed Superannuation Fund (SMSF) industry as well as for trustees who want to be actively involved in the management of their SMSF.  Topics will cover all areas of the Superannuation Industry (Supervision) Act 1993 (SISA) and Superannuation Industry (Supervision) Regulations 1994 (SISR) that professionals and trustees need to know in order to gain a good understanding of how the law applies to SMSFs.

On completion of the seminar, each participant will be able to demonstrate their understanding of the following provisions of the SISA and SISR in order to assist SMSF clients or effectively manage their own SMSF:

  • different trustee structures of SMSFs
  • the sole purpose of a superannuation fund
  • investment restrictions

  • financial assistance to SMSF members and relatives
  • assets that can be acquired by SMSFs from related parties

  • payment standards

The seminar will be facilitated using an expository approach and through whole group and small group discussion.  A quiz, consisting of 36 questions, will be conducted throughout the seminar to gauge participants understanding.
